Gaming for Charity

Many of you are probably already aware of Extra Life, if not, here’s what you need to know:

Extra Life is a children’s charity that benefits Children’s Miracle Network hospitals, and it’s run and sponsored by gamers. All kinds of gamers.

The gamers who take part are able to designate which hospital the money they raise goes to. In Eastern Ontario, where I live, that means CHEO (Children’s Hospital of Eastern Ontario). This year, I’m privileged and delighted to be taking part, thanks to my friend (and one of my D&D players, Karen McIntyre.

On Saturday, November 7th, Karen will be streaming games for 24 hours straight. She has graciously asked me if I would run a D&D one-shot as part of her gaming marathon. So, from 3 to 8 pm (EST) we will be streaming a game. You can get information on Karen’s fundraising here: https://www.extra-life.org/index.cfm?fuseaction=donorDrive.participant&participantID=412923

Don’t go quite yet though…

Karen is currently at about $500 USD. At $700, Brandon, her significant other, will have one of his legs waxed during the segment following the D&D game. Here’s what I’m offering to sweeten the pot a little bit:

For every $50 raised during the D&D game, a unique special event will trigger in the game that the players will have no advance warning of whatsoever. Only I know what the events are and the order that they will take place in, but only you have the ability to change the shape of reality, both in the game and in the lives of the kids who are dependent on CHEO for care.

Additionally, if you donate at least $15 USD and attach the message “MODULE”, I will send you a copy of the campaign, complete with map(s), and custom tokens, so you can run it yourself. This will include the written portion of the campaign, any maps, and any custom tokens created specifically for this game. You can then import them to Roll20, or use them in a traditional tabletop game.

Finally, for a donation of $25 or more I offer the following:
I am in the process of upgrading my home internet so I can stream games on Twitch. Once this is done, I have plans for a 24 hour D&D game involving a few different groups of players. For $25 USD, I will guarantee you a spot in this game, or, should the 24 hour game never happen, I will give you a spot in a 6-8 hour one shot instead.

I know that I have a great group of gamers, and at least a few faithful readers. This isn’t about a prestigious game or opportunity, it’s about supporting a valuable resource in our region that takes care of children in need of medical care. Let’s pull together and show them the support that they deserve.
