Monday, July 26, at 7:00 pm, a new game is beginning, and I think you’re going to like it. More than that, you might have the opportunity to be a part of it.
A Brand New D&D Game
I have, for some time, been wanting to run a custom game that’s a bit more world buildy, a bit of homebrew customized, and basically just the kind of game that I want to run.
The difficulty with world building, at least for me, has always been determining the kind of world I want to build. I mean, once you have that and a basic vision, half the work is effectively done, right?
So, a little while ago, during a conversation with a friend about how you can customize D&D 5e to run almost any kind of scenario, like wild west, space exploration, medieval high fantasy, or low fantasy, or like a Viking saga…
I stopped. Images of a group of adventurers wending their way across a barren tundra, snow obscuring their sight, wind biting their skin, stinging their eyes; now facing a beast of legend in its cave, the fate of a nearby village hanging in the balance; now ensnared by the wiles of a dark elf or some servant of Loki; now standing under the mighty world ash, Yggdrasil, contemplating the nine worlds and the nature of the universe, determining the best way to approach the gods…
Well, suffice to say I was inspired.
What’s Going On
So, here’s the details:
There will be a core group of three players, each with their own goals and attitudes, but also with motivation (at least right now) to work together. That group has been given fairly rigid standards for character creation in keeping with the world they come from (I may make documents available later if people are interested).
The world will have a fairly real-world feel, but with a certain (I hope) ancient mysticism to it. Imagine the Norse lands, only the gods are real, spirits inhabit the land, and almost anything can potentially happen.
Keeping the group small allows us to focus more on storytelling through each character, and I am definitely excited about the stories that these characters have to tell.
However, I want to go a bit further…
How to Get Involved
I am opening this game up to guest players.
Essentially, people who are not part of the regular game, who will stop by for a session or two at a time and interact with the core group in one way or another.
A few guest players have already been chosen and should serve well to give examples of how a guest character may affect the game.
While this will be an in person game, those outside of the area may still have a chance to join us over Discord.
Once the first game has been played, I will endeavour to make some documentation available for those who wish to join us.
A limited number of players will be allowed to join, since obviously there’s a limited number of spots available on any given night.
Where to Follow
We will be live streaming the audio from the game.
We are playing old school tabletop for this one, without any VTT, and (at least for right now) we’re not doing anything with video, so effectively it will run as a podcast.
We will be live-streaming on Twitch at https://www.twitch.tv/mightythunderbeard, and likely posting to a few other places as well, the details of which have yet to be worked out.
Stay tuned for more details.
